Twitter Reacts to Rishi Dhawan Wearing a Face Shield in First IPL Match Since 2016. PBKS vs CSK: Rishi Dhawan wore a protective face mask during Punjab Kings’ match against Chennai Super Kings on Monday in Mumbai, having recently undergone surgery.

Rishi Dhawan drew the attention of fans and experts in Match 38 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. Coming on to bowl, the all-rounder seen wearing a protective face shield, which drew a lot of attention on Twitter as fans tried to figure out why.

Dhawan was wearing a protective face mask due to an injury sustained in the Ranji Trophy prior to the start of the IPL 2022. The 32-year-old injure during the second round of matches and taken to the hospital for scans. Dhawan is said to be wearing the mask while bowling after undergoing surgery after being hit. As a result, he miss Punjab’s first four matches and seen in the nets wearing his mask.

He recently state, via PBKS’ social media handle, “I’m making my IPL comeback after a four-year absence, so being injure in the Ranji Trophy is disappointing. I had surgery, which kept me out of the first four games, but I’m fine now and available for selection. I’ve been working hard in the gym and am hoping to make a strong comeback.”

Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer took to Twitter to have his take on the development. He wrote, “Rayudu batting even more aggressively tonight. Rishi Dhawan’s glasses may have reminded him of something  #PBKSvCSK #IPL2022”

Another user wrote, “Rishi Dhawan is the man of firsts. He is the first bowler to be wearing a protective mask in #IPL. As @venkatatweets shared he hit on head in follow through during Ranji Trophy. It should become a normal now since I’ve seen a lot of bowlers getting hit in the follow through”.

In addition, Dhawan’s last IPL match was for PBKS (then Kings XI Punjab), and he was signed by the franchise during this year’s mega auction for Rs 55 lakh.
