With Virat Kohli stepping down as India’s Test captain. Many fans and experts have been left wondering about his replacement. The 33-year-old stepped down following India’s 1-2 loss to South Africa in their recent three-match series.

Meanwhile, Australian cricketer Steve Smith decided to share his choices for India’s Test captaincy. and he didn’t disappoint. Smith was asked by a fan on his Instagram story who he thought would succeed Kohli, and he replied that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were his “two favorites.”

“First and foremost, congrats to Virat. He has led the Indian team admirably over the last six or seven years. He has done an excellent job, and I believe Rohit or KL are the two favorites in the future ” he stated.

Smith took on a leadership role again after being named vice-captain of the Test team. He was a member of the Australian team that won the Ashes series, retaining the urn and defeating England 4-0.

Meanwhile, Kohli and India were defeated in the Test series against the Proteas. As well as 0-3 in the three-match ODI series.

Kohli also stepped down as T20I captain. Following India’s failure to advance to the knockout stage at the T20 World Cup last year. He was also relieved of the ODI captaincy soon after, with Rohit Sharma named India’s full-time white-ball skipper in December.

Due to an injury, Rohit missed the South Africa tour, and Rahul led India in the ODI series in his place.
