Indian captain Rohit Sharma praised Sanju Samson’s performance in the second Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka on February 26. Chasing 184 in 20 overs, the men in blue lost both openers, skipper Sharma and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, inside the powerplay. However, a collaboration between Samson and Shreyas Iyer ensured that India recovered from its early setbacks.

Samson and Iyer combined for an 84-run stand in 47 balls. While India’s new No. 3 stole the show with his 44-ball 74. Samson demonstrated his class with a quickfire innings of 39 runs off only 25 balls. The 27-year-old batter pounced on pacer Lahiru Kumara, hammering him for three huge sixes in the 13th over of the match, swinging the pendulum in India’s favor.

Following Samson’s dismissal, Indian allrounder Ravindra Jadeja took charge and ensured that the home side did not falter in their pursuit. The left-handed batsman hit a swashbuckling 18-ball 45 not out to propel India to victory in 17.1 overs.
