Ricky Ponting On India’s Star: One Of The Players To Watch At The T20 World Cup. Ponting praised the young Indian star, saying he has “the world at his feet.”
Rishabh Pant is the captain of Team India in the ongoing five-match Twenty20 International series against South Africa. India lost by seven wickets in the first Twenty20 International on Thursday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, despite scoring 211/4. Pant had scored 29 runs off only 16 deliveries while batting at No. 4. Ricky Ponting, Pant’s Delhi Capitals coach, has now weighed in on where Pant should bat and why he can be used as a floater.
Pant batted at No.4 or No.5 in the recently concluded IPL. The left-handed batter had a strike rate of more than 151 throughout the tournament, and he was also the Delhi Capitals’ second-highest scorer after David Warner.

Rishabh Pant Is One Of The Players To Watch At The T20 World Cup: Ricky Ponting
“I believe he’ll be used as a floater. They’ll have him listed at number five in the batting order. However, if they get to the point where there are seven-eight overs to go and they are one or two down, they will consider sending him in and giving him as much time as possible. He’s that exciting and dynamic. That is certainly how I intend to employ him “Ponting commented on the ICC Review.
“He’s amazing… talk about great people. He’s simply an outstanding young man with the world at his feet. He’ll be especially dangerous for India on the wickets we’ll be preparing in Australia for the T20 World Cup – good, fast, flat, bouncy wickets. He’ll undoubtedly be one of the players to keep an eye on during the tournament “He went on to say.
Ponting responded when asked how he would like to use Dinesh Karthik in the T20 side: “I’d have him, and I’d put him in the five or six role. The way he finished games for RCB this year elevated his game to a new level. When it comes to the IPL, you want your better players to be able to win two, three, or four games during the season. If you can get that from them, it will most likely be a very good return. However, Dinesh had a greater impact on many games this year than most of the other RCB players.”
“Virat (Kohli) had a great year, and Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) had a great start to the tournament… but DK was the one. And, I suppose, Faf, who kept the RCB bandwagon rolling. I’d be surprised if he isn’t in their (Indian) starting lineup somewhere “He continued.
