“I’m bothered.” Kapil Dev of Virat Kohli’s lean patch. Kapil Dev weighed in on Virat Kohli’s poor form, saying that the former captain needs to improve his game “mentally.”
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are going through a rough patch. While the former has not scored a century since November of this year, the latter has failed to score a half-century in 14 consecutive matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Both senior Indian batters will now be expected to perform well during the upcoming England tour, which begins with a Test match in Birmingham on July 1. It is a rescheduled Test match that will determine the fate of the unfinished series between India and England, which was halted in 2021 due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Kapil Dev, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain, provided his assessment of both players’ form ahead of the series.
On a YouTube discussion: many people tell him not to analyze Kohli’s form because he hasn’t played cricket.
Dev responded, “Even I haven’t played as much cricket as Virat Kohli.” We can’t criticize these players because we haven’t played enough cricket. That is incorrect. We’ve played cricket and are familiar with the game. And after understanding the game, I believe they need to correct their own thought process, not ours.
“We will be grateful if you can prove us wrong. If you don’t score runs, we suspect something is wrong somewhere. Perhaps there is too much cricket. If there is too much cricket, talk to yourself; if there is too little cricket, talk to yourself as well “Kapil Dev has been added to the Uncut YouTube channel.
“We only notice one thing: your performance. And how many people can you keep quiet if the performance isn’t up to par? That is not a possibility. Nothing but your bat and your performance should speak for you.”
Kapil Dev responded to Virat Kohli century drought
“I’m wondering the same thing: Why is there such a big player and such a big gap? I’m bothered by it because he’s like a hero to us. We used to believe that we would never find a player who could compete with Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, and Virender Sehwag. But Kohli made us compare him to them. However, he has not done so in the last two years. As a result, I am bothered. I believe he needs to work on his mental game as well as his cricket.”
Kapil Dev also addressed Rohit’s failure to score a half-century in the IPL. “The player is fantastic. However, if you don’t score a fifty in 14 games, there will be questions. Be it Gary Sobers, Don Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Vivian Richards, or Sunil Gavaskar. There will be questions if a big player like him does not score runs in a large number of matches. Only Rohit Sharma knows what is going on with him. Players like him and Virat Kohli should have a good time.”
