Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes Punjab Kings should rest star batter Jonny Bairstow for the game against Lucknow Super Giants. Bairstow, who was purchased by PBKS for Rs 6.75 crore during the IPL 2022 auction, has yet to make an appearance in the tournament. In five games, the Englishman has only scored 47 runs. Chopra stated ahead of their game against LSG that Australia pacer Nathan Ellis should replace Bairstow in the playing XI, adding that PBKS needs more firepower in their bowling attack.

Aakash Chopra wants Punjab Kings to drop one of their overseas players from their starting XI.

“In this match, I believe PBKS must address one issue. On this surface, they need to move quickly. Rishi Dhawan is an excellent option who bowls well, but he is only a medium pacer. They can consider bringing in Nathan Ellis for this match. They should consider benching Jonny Bairstow for this game in order to bring in Ellis. The other three overseas players in the team can be Liam Livingstone, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Kagiso Rabada. I believe they should think about it “Chopra stated this in a video posted to his YouTube channel.

PBKS, on the other hand, repurchased Ellis at his base price of Rs 75 lakh.

So far, the 27-year-old has only played one game and has gone wicketless.

He was also a member of the team last season, taking one wicket in three games.

PBKS is currently seventh in the points table, having won four games and lost four.

They will now face fourth-placed LSG later today at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
