After being asked to bat by the West Indies, India powered to 186 for five on Friday in Kolkata, boosted by half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant.

Kohli scored 52 points off 41 balls, while Pant hit an unbeaten 52 points off 28 balls. Pant and Venkatesh Iyer’s partnership was crucial for India, as the pair added 76 runs off just 35 balls to help India reach an impressive total.

Yuzvendra Chahal struck in the powerplay overs to put the West Indies on the back foot in the chase. Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Brandon King in the ninth over, extending India’s lead.

Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell, on the other hand, took matters into their own hands and smashed fine half-centuries to put the visitors in a strong position. The pair scored 100 runs in 60 balls to put the West Indies within striking distance.

However, some excellent death bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel ensured that the West Indies fell eight runs short.
