Wasim Jaffer Names Team India’s Openers Against Sri Lanka For T20Is. Jaffer has picked India’s opening pair for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Wasim Jaffer, raised some eyebrows when he chose the team’s openers for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. Which begins February 24 in Lucknow, Instead, Jaffer paired captain Rohit Sharma with Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Jaffer also hope Gaikwad will be given a “long run.” Gaikwad should play “at least a couple of games” against Sri Lanka, according to him. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer stated, “Because India had a bad series with Ishan Kishan [against the West Indies], Rohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad should open this series. It’s past time for India to give Ruturaj a three-game or two-game run. As a result, I believe Rohit and Ruturaj should start at least a couple of games.”

In the recently concluded West Indies series, Rohit opened with Ishan in the first and second T20Is. Before Ishan partnered with Gaikwad in the final match.
Ishan score 71 runs in the three-match T20I series against West Indies at home. While Gaikwad struggle and was dismiss for four runs in the only match he play.
Rohit-led India will be counting on their batters to perform well. As they will be without Suryakumar Yadav for the duration of the series. The batter suffer a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in Kolkata’s final game against the West Indies and was thus rule out.
In another setback, pacer Deepak Chahar will miss the series after injuring his right quadriceps while bowling against the West Indies recently.
The series’ second and third Twenty20 Internationals will be played on February 26 and 27 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
