Sri Lanka and West Indies will look to move up the table of the World Test Championship when they clash in the two-match series. The first test will be played at the Galle Cricket Stadium and will start at 10:00 AM IST

Sri Lanka have not been in the best of form in Test cricket due to an extended transition phase. However, their opponents are not intimidating enough. If it was a T20I game, this could have been even stevens but West Indies winning a Test in Sri Lanka will be tough, to be fair.

Sri Lanka last played a Test match back in May and defeated Bangladesh. Dimuth Karunaratne was in great form in the series and scored 118 and 66 in two games. He is the most experience batter in the team and a lot will rest on his shoulders. Sri Lanka have named four uncapped players in the squad, including Charith Asalanka, who impressed in the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, West Indies last played against Pakistan at home and drew the series 1-1. Kraigg Brathwaite has been in top form for West Indies, scoring 556 runs in 2021. Kyle Mayers and Nkrumah Bonner also have been in impressive form. However, it will be interesting to see how they fare against the Sri Lanka spinners. If West Indies play Sri Laka spinners well, they may a chance to upset Sri Lanka.

Chasing has never been easy for teams in Galle thus skipper who wins the toss should bat.

The surface in Galle has always been feasible for spinners and the pitch in the coming game should not be too different. However, Day 1 may have something in it for the pacers as well.

We may see a few showers on Day 3, 4 and 5. The first two days are clear for play.

Sri Lanka will take on West Indies in the second and final Test match. This game will be played at the Galle International Stadium, starting on November 29 at 10:00 local time.

Sri Lanka were much the better team in the opening Test match of the series and were excellent value for their 187 run victory. It was a classic Test match performance from the home side who produced the highest innings score of the match in the first innings before bowling West Indies out to win the game on Day 5. Dimuth Karunaratne hit 230 runs across the first Test including 147 in the first innings. Only England’s Joe Root has scored more Test centuries than Karunaratne in 2021. Spinner Ramesh Mendis took 7 wickets across the match including 4-64 in the final innings.

West Indies struggled to get a foothold throughout the first Test and were never in front over the entire five days. They hit no half-centuries in the first innings but Nkrumah Bonner (68 not-out) and Joshua da Silva (54) both did so in the second innings. Indeed, Bonner and da Silva put on a 100 run partnership to take West Indies from 18-6 to a more respectable total. Devon Chase took 5-83 in Sri Lanka’s first innings with Jomel Warrican picking up 5 wickets across the match.
