CSK defeat MI to move to number two

Meanwhile, in the match against MI, CSK picked up an easy victory at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Batting first, the visiting team lost three quick wickets as skipper Rohit Sharma once again failed to open his tally, becoming the player with the most number of ducks in the history of the Indian Premier League. However, after the initial struggle, Nehal Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav held their nerves to bail Mumbai out of a difficult situation.

Wadhera recorded his first half-century of the season, scoring 64 off 51 deliveries, and MI placed 139 runs on the board after 20 overs. Chennai were therefore in complete command of the game, and their openers – Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway – got off to a flying start in the second innings. Conway scored 44 runs off 42 pitches, while Ruturaj scored 30 runs off 16 pitches.

Later, Shivam Dube’s fast 26* runs off 18 deliveries aided CSK’s pursuit of the score in 17.4 overs. Thus, the MS Dhoni-led side improved their net run rate, which might play a significant impact in the tournament’s latter stages. They are now ranked second in the IPL Points Table, while the five-time champions are ranked sixth.
