England’s Mark Wood is set to miss the final stages of the ongoing cash-rich league. This season, Mark Wood has been brilliant for LSG, taking 11 wickets in four games.

Mark Wood, a fast bowler for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), will most likely miss the closing stages of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) to attend the birth of his daughter in late May. The English batsman has missed LSG’s last two matches due to sickness, but he has been superb for the KL Rahul-led team this season, taking 11 wickets in four games.

Notably, he concluded with 5/14 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in his IPL debut. In his place, LSG have chosen Afghanistan seamer Naveen-ul-Haq, who has bowled tight spells in his first two games.

Wood and his wife Sarah are expecting their second child at the end of May, and the cricketer will return home in the coming weeks to be present for the birth. He is unlikely to return to India after that.

LSG will play the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on April 28. On May 1 and 3, they will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and four-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Following the IPL 2023 final, England will play Ireland in a one-off Test at Lord’s.

CSK batsman Ben Stokes has already hinted that he may leave the IPL early to prepare for the forthcoming Ireland Test and Ashes series. Stokes hasn’t played for CSK since April 3 due to niggles. He does not, however, have a fixed return date.

Joe Root and Harry Brook are two additional English players who will play in both the IPL and the Ireland Test. Root has yet to play for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL, while Brook has made only one appearance for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
