Dilruwan Perera, a veteran Sri Lankan spinner, announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday (January 26). According to the latest developments, the 39-year-old informed the CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, Ashley de Silva, of his decision via email. Perera was an important part of Sri Lanka’s Test team, and his statistics in the longest format are also impressive.

With his ability to spin the ball even on flat tracks, the off-spinner has tormented the best batters. Perera is also the quickest Sri Lankan to reach 50 and 100 Test wickets, having done so in 11 and 25 matches, respectively. He was also a useful lower-order batter who contributed several crucial runs for Sri Lanka. He is the first Sri Lankan to take ten wickets and score a half-century in the same Test.

Dilruwan Perera: I will continue to play domestic cricket.

As a result, his departure has left a significant void in the Sri Lankan Test team. Meanwhile, Perera has stated that he will continue to play domestic cricket for a long time. “I will continue to play domestic cricket for a while longer, but I believe the time has come to call it a day on my international cricket journey,” Dilruwan wrote in his retirement note, according to Thepapare.com.

“I’ve had the privilege and honor of playing with some of the best in the game; I leave with fond memories and a heart full of joy.” Dilruwan added. Meanwhile, the spinner has been fantastic in domestic cricket. In more than 200 First-Class appearances, he has taken over 800 Test wickets.

When it comes to international cricket statistics, Perera is Sri Lanka’s fifth-highest wicket-taker in Tests, with 161 wickets in 43 matches. In Tests, he took as many as eight five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket hauls. He also batted well, scoring 1303 runs in the shortest format with the help of seven half-centuries.

In 2014, he had a career-high score of 95 against Pakistan. Perera also took 13 ODI and 3 T20I wickets in the same number of appearances.
