“This squad will begin preparations for the T20 World Cup defense at home later this year, and includes several players who will have an early opportunity to impress in these five matches against quality opposition,” said chief selector George Bailey.

This includes Big Bash League star McDermott, Travis Head, Jhye Richardson, and Moises Henriques, who were all part of the World Cup-winning squad last year.

“I don’t think I was ready to play for Australia (before), but I do feel ready now. ” McDermott said after a breakout Big Bash League season for the Hobart Hurricanes on Tuesday. “I feel like I’m at the pinnacle of my abilities.”
