Four people have been arrested for allegedly organizing online betting on a cricket match between India and South Africa in Sardarpur, Madhya Pradesh. The police raided a salon in Rajendra Colony where the culprits were partaking in the illegal activity.
On Thursday, the police received a tip-off that some people were taking illegal bets for the ongoing India vs South Africa match. After searching the area and confirming the information was legitimate the police raided the salon and caught four people there.
The suspects were taking bets from various people through an app that was not authorized by the government for online gambling. The bets were taken during the match and the final settlements for the winners were supposed to take place the next day. A case against the four accused has been registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology Amendment Act
Every state has different laws regarding gambling, some allow it and some do not, but those who allow it have specific places or websites that are permitted by the government to practise games with stakes. Breaching the rules has specific consequences as per the regulations in the particular state.
According to the statement given by Rajgarh SHO Kamal Singh Panwar to Free Press the people that are arrested in the operation have been identified as Abdul Aziz, Akash Dhanak, a resident of Rajgarh, Khalil Khan and Imraan Rashid. They also seized a LED TV and a set top box which were presumably used to watch the match, four mobile phones, Rs. 7600 in cash and a register where all the bets were being noted totaling to Rs. 27,600.

Three individuals were detained by the Lahore police for participating in online (digital) gambling, and officers found Rs. 1 lakh in cash and three cell phones in their possession.
According to the report, the accused were named as Shoaib, Salim, and the ringleader, Faizan.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Task Force on Thursday raided a gaming house at Ramkote in Sultan Bazaar and arrested three persons for organising cricket betting in connection with the ongoing Big Bash League cricket matches in Australia.
The police seized Rs 1 lakh, mobile phones and other material from D Abhishek, the main organiser from Sultan Bazaar, Jatin Masrane, a punter from Barkatpura and Dinesh from Balkampet. Police said Abhishek was organizing cricket betting clandestinely at rented premises in Sultan Bazaar with the help of a cricket bookie from Goa.
“Using cricket apps which provide online scores, ball to ball, as well as betting ratios, they collected bets from punters,” said an official.
