Smeed, along with his opening partner Ahsan Ali, who scored 73 off 46 balls, provided the perfect platform for Quetta Gladiators to post a big total. For the first wicket, the pair scored 155 runs in just 15.3 overs.
The rest of the batters, however, were unable to capitalize. Smeed had a chance to score a century but was caught on 97 off the final ball of the innings.
In their 20 overs, the Gladiators managed to score 190 for four.
In response, Yasir Khan and Tom Kohler-Cadmore got the Zalmis off to a flying start.
Hussain Talat scored a fine 52 off 29 balls to play a crucial role while veteran Shoaib Malik anchored the innings with an unbeaten 48 off 32 balls as Peshawar Zalmi reached the target with two balls to spare.
Except for Naseem Shah, all Quetta bowlers had an economy rate of more than 9 in a poor bowling performance that saw Smeed’s heroics with the bat go in vain.
Will Smeed and the Quetta Gladiators’ next match is against the Multan Sultans, and the team is hoping for more from the young English batter.
