Wasim Jaffer made his Test debut after Shreyas Iyer’s century: Cricket News

Shreyas Iyer received excellent praise from Wasim Jaffer. On his Test debut on Friday, Iyer hammered a century. Jaffer praised his Mumbai teammate for supporting his style of play. Despite the fact that he was playing his first-ever Test match. Iyer became the sixteenth Indian to strike a century in a Test match. On his debut against New Zealand on Day 2 of the first Test, he scored 104 runs. He was the driving force behind India’s 345-run victory on a deteriorating Kanpur pitch. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Wasim Jaffer discussed Iyer’s aggressive temperament. Jaffer mentioned that he has always backed up his game, citing Iyer’s accomplishments in domestic cricket as evidence.

“Just because he’s playing his first test, he didn’t change his game and just backed his game. That was the most important thing. And that is what I expected from him. Because even when he came in as a U-19 guy, playing in Ranji trophy or in the Vijay Hazare, he was never over-odd from the occasion. He backed his game even then, and that is what I expected from him,” Jaffer said.

Furthermore, Iyer arrives at the crease in a time of difficulty. Also, from the start, a skillfully stamped his dominance on the game. He didn’t give the Kiwi bowlers any credit because they didn’t look penetrative enough against him. With regular stars such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul. They are unavailable for the first Test. That’s why Shreyas Iyer had the opportunity to play at No. 5. Iyer grabbed the chance with both hands, scoring a commanding ton.

Lastly, Shreyas Iyer might be the Indian test team’s long-term No. 5 option. Jaffer said yes and  Iyer not only a great defense, he told ESPNcricinfo. But he has a wide range of shots that will help him succeed in this format.

“I think so, yes. I think he has a solid defense. There’s no shortage of shots in him. He’s good when driving, he has scored runs at first-class level. Wherever he’s got an opportunity, he’s got runs in days of cricket. He’s got a double hundred against Australia in the Board President’s game. So he’s somebody who’s got big hundreds. It is not something new to him,” Wasim Jaffer said.
