Steve Waugh criticizes David Warner’s lack of confidence for his defeat in the Nagpur Test. As the Australian hitters’ spin issues continue, Team India is in a dominant position on Day 1.

With the Border Gavaskar Trophy fully started, there are numerous Indian players to keep an eye on. David Warner, the Australian opener, was one such player. The 36-year-old has been one of Australia’s most influential players over the years, and his early dismissal in the first innings might prove expensive for the squad.

Former Australia batter Steve Waugh believes Warner’s lack of confidence is to blame for his failure to produce in India. Waugh also stated that despite reaching a double century lately, the 36-year-old has had a difficult summer.

“So, I believe he had a difficult summer. At the MCG, I felt he hit a tremendous double hundred. Aside from that, he hasn’t made many runs. I believe he is lacking in confidence. I believe he is not paying as close attention to the ball as he should. I’m not sure if he wants the short ball or something else. You must give it to Shami. That was a fantastic ball. I believe Warner expected it to leave him, but it did so at an angle. Excellent ball, “Waugh stated to Star Sports.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri weighed in on Warner’s performance as well

India is presently leading Day 1 of the first Test in Nagpur. Mohammed Shami bowled an unplayable delivery to Warner, and the 36-year-old was out for one run. He attempted to defend but failed horribly as Shami’s ball knocked away Warner’s off stump via the space between his bat and pad.

During the first day’s lunch break, former India coach Ravi Shastri commented on Warner’s performance. He added that he saw Warner’s unfavorable attitude toward his footwork, which contributed to his early resignation.

Shastri stated on the subject, “I’ve seen Warner with far better footwork. But he got caught on the crease. His body language when he is shifting his foot communicates, ‘When you don’t get it properly (the bowler), I am attacking’. His body language suggested that he was looking for something. It makes a significant impact.”
