The Indian Premier League has seen a slew of cricketers from around the world make an everlasting mark on the game’s shortest format. However, like with any athlete, even the finest must give way to the new generation as time passes. Aakash Chopra put it succinctly: “As the light of a superstar sets, another must rise.”

On ‘Next-Gen Superstars,’ a new episode of ‘Legends Lounge’ available on JioCinema.

The former India opener was join by RP Singh, Robin Uthappa, Pragyan Ojha, Suresh Raina, and Parthiv Patel as they explored which future players appear ready to begin their reign in the flagship tournament.

Raina initially mentioned Arshdeep Singh before stating why he believes Ravi Bishnoi deserves to be recognize among bowlers. “When you look at all of the major bowlers who have earned their stripes in Test cricket, I believe Bishnoi, with his character and delivery style, will become someone like Rashid Khan.”

Ojha mentioned Abhishek Sharma as a rising talent to keep an eye on before describing what makes Tilak Varma unique. “He’s originally from Hyderabad. I’ve been watching his growth since he was a child. I’m referring to him and how hard he works in U-15 and U-16 cricket. His timetable calls for him to leave at 6 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. He only takes a 30-45-minute break for lunch. He is completely committed.”

Varma’s potential was also mention by Uthappa, who praise his impressive efforts for the Mumbai Indians previous season. Despite his short run-up, he chose Mohsin Khan as his bowler of choice due to his remarkable quick bowling ability.

RP Singh praised Arshdeep Singh

RP Singh lauded Arshdeep and identified Yashasvi Jaiswal as a possible generation-next batter. “Looking at his hitting in the domestic circuit, you can see he’s different. His ability to read the game, his batting technique, or his understanding of how to end a match. The beautiful thing about him is that even if he just earns 50, he is already planning his 100.”

Patel intended to write about Delhi Capitals batter Prithvi Shaw and Gujarat Titans spinner Yash Dayal, but opted against it because he has watched Varma blossom in the IPL.

“We can tell from the manner (Shaw) has batted in domestic games that he plays well. Questions have been made regarding his fitness, and if he can overcome these concerns, I believe he has a bright career ahead of him. Yash Dayal is my choice for bowler. Excellent bowler. If there was a star bowler last year, I believe it was Yash Dayal.” Chopra thanked Yashasvi and Washington Sundar for their contributions to the lively debate.
