Ravindra Jadeja would be worried about the progress of his side. They have won just two games they have played and sit in the 9th position on the points table. Not often have we seen Mumbai Indians being in the sort of situation they are in and often when they have been in dire straits, they have managed to get back amid the thick of things and qualify. At this stage, however, a spot in the next round seems to be a distant possibility. They would need to win all their remaining matches to have a fair chance to qualify and given the form they have been in, not many would want to bet on that possibility at the moment.
As it currently stands on the points table, Mumbai Indians are placed at the bottom-most spot and are still searching for their first win. Not only that, they have a pretty poor net run rate of -1.048, which they would want to improve along with getting some points on the board.
It is not that Mumbai Indians have been completely outplayed by their opponents. It is just that Mumbai Indians have failed to take the final leap of handling the crunch moments. The fact that Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have not scored well for them hasn’t helped their cause either. On the bowling front as well, we have seen them make a number of mistakes, which isn’t usually a Mumbai Indians’ characteristic. We expect Tymal Mills sitting out in the next match and that same could happen with Murugan Ashwin as well to make way for Mayank Markande. The batting, on the other hand, has although not done as well as it is capable of, it looks settled. Mumbai Indians would need to play out of their skins in this upcoming match and if they are able to do that, Chennai Super Kings will certainly have their work cut out.
Chennai Super Kings had a start remarkably similar to that of Mumbai Indians but much to their respite they managed to sneak in a win to slightly stay above Mumbai Indians in the pecking order. Although they are still far from announcing their candidature for a spot in the next round, another couple of wins will put their campaign back on track and they would know that.

Apart from one match, they have fought in almost all matches, and would need the final push to convert those losses into wins going forward. The Mumbai Indians dropped Ishan Kishan and included Nathan Coulter Nile for their match against the Rajasthan Royals. It was a strange move in our opinion and actually ended up making the team a bit imbalanced.
Yes, Krunal Pandya was able to come up the order and play an attacking inning but that is not what MI wants to do on a regular basis. We think Jayant Yadav is going to be dropped for the match against CSK and Ishan Kishan will come back into the team.
Quinton de Kock played a great knock of 70 not out and saw his team home. As sone one who has played for the Delhi franchise for quite some time, the conditions are well-known to him and we think de Kock could play a big role in this upcoming contest as well.
Rohit Sharma has not been at his best so far and Suryakumar Yadav seems to get out just when he is looking set. These two must improve their showing for MI to improve its batting. The all-round strength of Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya is a massive asset but we do think there is room to add one more genuine batsman in the lineup.
MI’s bowling has been brilliant has helped it win a couple of matches already. Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult are very difficult to get away at the end, Rahul Chahar is one of the leading wicket-takers of IPL 2021 and Krunal Pandya is quite dependable as well.
The second overseas bowler has been rotated so far with Jensen, Milne, and now Coulter-Nile getting a run. Jayant Yadav is probably someone that Mumbai can do without to add a bit of batting depth to the playing eleven.
It has been so refreshing to see the aggressive approach to batting from CSK. These are essentially the same bunch of players that were finding it hard to adapt in the previous season but they have clearly improved their game.
Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad are in tremendous form with the bat. They will be tested by the MI new ball attack and if they can get through then they could set up the platform for the batsmen to follow. Moeen Ali at number three is always a threat and the rest of the batting lineup is quite potent as well.
Ravindra Jadeja is a genuine number five batsman with serious power-hutting abilities but he lacks a bit of support. Suresh Rain and MS Dhoni are not at their best. They have tried to keep the tempo whenever they have walked in but their discomfort at the crease is clearly visible.
A couple of early wickets could hurt CSK very badly.
The bowling for CSK is also not the strongest. Deepak Chahar has been brilliant with the new ball but once the ball stops swinging, he can go for a lot of runs. Sam Curran is similar in that manner as well. Shardul Thakur continues to play but he is surely running out of chances as he continues to be expensive in every game that he plays.
Lungi Ngidi, Moeen Ali, and Ravindra Jadeja form the remaining of the bowling attack and they all can be taken for runs as well.
