We are into the 33rd game of the Indian Premier League 2022 and Mumbai Indians are yet to get off the mark. As they take on the Chennai Super Kings in this game, it would be an important contest for the two teams occupying the last two slots on the points table. MI went down against the Lucknow Super Giants in their last game while CSK also suffered a loss at the hands of Gujarat Titans coming here.
Mumbai Indians have a big problem up their sleeves. The side has lost all the six games it has played and needs to come out with a winning formula. Chennai’s run in the tournament hasn’t been too good either and both sides would desperately look for a win in this game. A loss here would end Mumbai’s hopes of making it to the next round. The stakes are high in this battle, and we expect this contest to go down the wire.
Rohit Sharma’s side would do best to forget the last six games. They haven’t found themselves in such a position in the past decade losing their first six games of the season. They went down against the Lucknow Super Giants in the last game by 18 runs, another miserable show from their bowlers. The side needs to win this game to keep the slightest of hopes alive for a place in the playoffs.
The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan must get their acts together and set up a good opening wicket stand. The middle-order has done well for the side, and they would look for runs from Suryakumar Yadav, Dewald Brevis, and Tilak Varma. Fabian Allen coming into the side has added to its depth and he would need to fire all cylinders along with Kieron Pollard in this game.
Tilak Varma and Jaydev Unadkat will have to get early wickets as the Chennai Super Kings have a strong batting line-up. The side would however be worried about the form of other bowlers who have failed to trouble the batsmen. Jasprit Bumrah, Murugan Ashwin, and Tymal have leaked runs and the side would need them to deliver in this game. Fabian Allen will have to bowl good spells in the middle overs for the side to overcome the challenge thrown at them by the CSK batsmen.
Top Batsman – Ishan Kishan
Top Bowler – Jasprit Bumrah
Mumbai Indians Predicted Playing XI:
Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Jaydev Unadkat, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, Fabian Allen
Mumbai Indians Actual Playing XI:
Riley Meredith, Jaydev Unadkat, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah, Hrithik Shokeen, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Daniel Sams, Dewald Brevis, Rohit Sharma, SA Yadav
Ravindra Jadeja would be worried about the progress of his side. They have won just two games they have played and sit in the 9th position on the points table. The side comes here with a 3-wicket loss against the Gujarat Titans, a game they had in their bag but gave away with poor bowling towards the end of the innings. Their opponents are yet to win a game and Jadeja shall look to exploit this weakness and win this game here.
Ruturaj Gaikwad finally hit form in the last game and needs to set up a good partnership with Robin Uthappa. They haven’t got a good start in any of the games so far and this is a big worry for the side. In the middle order Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, and Shivam Dubey need to play freely with the side having impressive batting depth. Jadeja, MS Dhoni, and Dwayne Bravo have powerful striking abilities and they need to play strong hands down the order.
Mukesh Choudhary and Maheesh Theekshana bowled well in the last game, and they will need to come up with good spells at the start of the game. The rest of the bowling attack hasn’t been doing well and the side would need good spells from Bravo, Jadeja, and Ali who have years of experience in this format of the game. Chris Jordan has to check his line as his poor spells are hurting the side.
Top Batsman – Ruturaj Gaikwad
Top Bowler – Dwayne Bravo
Chennai Super Kings Predicted Playing XI:
Ravindra Jadeja (c), Robin Uthappa, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (wk), Dwayne Bravo, Chris Jordan, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary
Chennai Super Kings Actual Playing XI:
Dwayne Bravo, Maheesh Theekshana, Shivam Dube, RV Uthappa, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwaine Pretorius, Mukesh Choudhary, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mitchell Santner, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni
We expect to see a warm and humid evening in Mumbai on April 21. The wicket has played well so far in the season and batsmen have had a good time on this wicket. The ball is coming to the bat nicely allowing them to play their strokes easily. There is little margin of error for the bowlers and the side batting first would be looking at a score of over 180 runs in this game.
Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy is known for being a paradise for batsmen. The ball comes onto the bat nicely and we have seen big scores being made at this venue in the past. Fast bowlers have generally struggled at this venue as there is little for them. Spinners who use the dry surface well have enjoyed success.
The last few games have seen big scores being put on the board at this venue. Chasing scores is easy as the wicket remains the same in the second half of the game. The side winning the toss would look to bowl first and try and attempt to restrict the opposition to a small total.

Not often have we seen Mumbai Indians being in the sort of situation they are in and often when they have been in dire straits, they have managed to get back amid the thick of things and qualify. At this stage, however, a spot in the next round seems to be a distant possibility. They would need to win all their remaining matches to have a fair chance to qualify and given the form they have been in, not many would want to bet on that possibility at the moment.
As it currently stands on the points table, Mumbai Indians are placed at the bottom-most spot and are still searching for their first win. Not only that, they have a pretty poor net run rate of -1.048, which they would want to improve along with getting some points on the board.
It is not that Mumbai Indians have been completely outplayed by their opponents. It is just that Mumbai Indians have failed to take the final leap of handling the crunch moments. The fact that Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have not scored well for them hasn’t helped their cause either. Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Verma have done well for them in the middle-order and that, perhaps, is the only thing that has kept their hopes alive despite a disastrous start.
On the bowling front as well, we have seen them make a number of mistakes, which isn’t usually a Mumbai Indians’ characteristic. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, none of their bowlers have looked sharp enough to cause any troubles whatsoever. That has in-turn allowed the opponents batsmen to play him out safely and attack the other batsmen. Largely because of how their bowlers have done, Mumbai Indians find themselves in a poor position and bouncing back from here will need some radical changes.
We expect Tymal Mills sitting out in the next match and that same could happen with Murugan Ashwin as well to make way for Mayank Markande. The batting, on the other hand, has although not done as well as it is capable of, it looks settled. Mumbai Indians would need to play out of their skins in this upcoming match and if they are able to do that, Chennai Super Kings will certainly have their work cut out.
Chennai Super Kings had a start remarkably similar to that of Mumbai Indians but much to their respite they managed to sneak in a win to slightly stay above Mumbai Indians in the pecking order. Although they are still far from announcing their candidature for a spot in the next round, another couple of wins will put their campaign back on track and they would know that.
As it currently stands on the points table, Chennai Super Kings are placed at the second spot from the bottom with just one win from six matches. Apart from one match, they have fought in almost all matches, and would need the final push to convert those losses into wins going forward. They have a net run rate of -0.638 and would definitely want to improve that going forward.
In the previous match as well, they were in a position to dictate terms before Chris Jordan bottled it with the ball. Having said that, this has indeed been their story in this season as they have struggled to get quality overs in the back-end of the innings, regardless of whether they are batting first or bowling first.

The Mumbai Indians dropped Ishan Kishan and included Nathan Coulter Nile for their match against the Rajasthan Royals. It was a strange move in our opinion and actually ended up making the team a bit imbalanced.
Yes, Krunal Pandya was able to come up the order and play an attacking inning but that is not what MI wants to do on a regular basis. We think Jayant Yadav is going to be dropped for the match against CSK and Ishan Kishan will come back into the team.
Quinton de Kock played a great knock of 70 not out and saw his team home. As sone one who has played for the Delhi franchise for quite some time, the conditions are well-known to him and we think de Kock could play a big role in this upcoming contest as well.
Rohit Sharma has not been at his best so far and Suryakumar Yadav seems to get out just when he is looking set. These two must improve their showing for MI to improve its batting. The all-round strength of Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya is a massive asset but we do think there is room to add one more genuine batsman in the lineup.
MI’s bowling has been brilliant has helped it win a couple of matches already. Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult are very difficult to get away at the end, Rahul Chahar is one of the leading wicket-takers of IPL 2021 and Krunal Pandya is quite dependable as well.
The second overseas bowler has been rotated so far with Jensen, Milne, and now Coulter-Nile getting a run. Jayant Yadav is probably someone that Mumbai can do without to add a bit of batting depth to the playing eleven.
It has been so refreshing to see the aggressive approach to batting from CSK. These are essentially the same bunch of players that were finding it hard to adapt in the previous season but they have clearly improved their game.
Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad are in tremendous form with the bat. They will be tested by the MI new ball attack and if they can get through then they could set up the platform for the batsmen to follow. Moeen Ali at number three is always a threat and the rest of the batting lineup is quite potent as well.
Ravindra Jadeja is a genuine number five batsman with serious power-hutting abilities but he lacks a bit of support. Suresh Rain and MS Dhoni are not at their best. They have tried to keep the tempo whenever they have walked in but their discomfort at the crease is clearly visible.
A couple of early wickets could hurt CSK very badly.
The bowling for CSK is also not the strongest. Deepak Chahar has been brilliant with the new ball but once the ball stops swinging, he can go for a lot of runs. Sam Curran is similar in that manner as well. Shardul Thakur continues to play but he is surely running out of chances as he continues to be expensive in every game that he plays.
Lungi Ngidi, Moeen Ali, and Ravindra Jadeja form the remaining of the bowling attack and they all can be taken for runs as well. Overall, CSK has a bowling attack that could struggle against a strong batting lineup on a good pitch and that is exactly what it is going mi vs csk cricket bettingMI vs CSKMatch & Dream 11 Prediction, Betting Tips, Playing 11, Pitch Report and Analysis – May 01, 2021 to be facing in this match.
