Kumar Dharmasena Goes For A Catch While Umpiring In Sri Lanka vs Australia 3rd ODI. Alex Carey of Australia hit a short ball to square-leg umpire Kumar Dharmasena, whose reflexes forced him to attempt a catch.
The ongoing five-match ODIs between Sri Lanka and Australia has become more interesting as the Dasun Shanaka-led side has rebounded with two consecutive wins after losing the first game to the visitors. While Sri Lanka lost the T20I series to Australia 1-2. They now have a good chance to win the ODI series and avenge the loss. The stakes were high when the two teams met for the third ODI on Sunday. But it was umpire Kumar Dharmasena who stole the show more than any Sri Lankan or Australian player.
Dharmasena caught everyone’s attention when he nearly caught a ball while umpiring on the leg side during the game.
During Australia’s batting, Alex Carey hit a short ball towards square-leg umpire Dharmasena, who was forced to attempt a catch due to his reflexes. But Dharmasena quickly realized he was an umpire in the game, not a fielder. He drew himself back from the ball’s path at the last second.

Regarding the match on Sunday, Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bat first at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. He led his side from the start with a 62-run knock before Travis Head (70 not out) and Alex Carey (49 not out) helped the side to 291/6 in 50 overs.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, won with six wickets in hand and nine balls to spare. Pathum Nissanka scored 137 runs, while Kusal Mendis contributed an 87-run knock before being forced to retire injured. Nissanka was named Player of the Match.
Sri Lanka now leads the five-match series 2-1. The teams will meet again on June 21 at the same venue for the fourth time.
