Gautam Gambhir said – “Every time Indian cricket does not do well, the blame unfairly comes on IPL

Gautam Gambhir said – “Every time Indian cricket does not do well, the blame unfairly comes on IPL. “IPL is the best thing that has happen to Indian cricket,” Gambhir added.

According to former opener Gautam Gambhir, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is not always to blame when the national cricket team underperforms in major competitions. Gambhir also discussed how the IPL has helped Indian cricket in general throughout the years.

After India’s elimination from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 quarterfinal with a humiliating 10 wicket loss to England, several critics had questioned the players’ dedication to the national squad. Gautam’s comments followed. They had criticized the players, claiming that their level of commitment was only high while they were participating in the IPL. Notably, India has not claimed victory in an ICC competition since MS Dhoni’s team won the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Gautam Gambhir – “IPL is the best thing that has happen to Indian cricket “

“IPL is the best thing that has happen to Indian cricket. I can say this with all my senses. There has been lot of backlash regarding IPL since it started. Every time Indian cricket does not do well, the blame comes on IPL, which is not fair. If we don’t perform well in ICC tournaments, blame the players, blame the performance, but it is unfair to point fingers on the IPL,”

Gambhir said.

“A sportsman can only earn till he is 35-36. IPL provides with financial security which is equally important,”

He added.

Gautam Gambhir is one of the greatest IPL captains of all time. He had led the Kolkata Knight Riders to two championships in the 2012 and 2014 seasons. The southpaw led the franchise as captain from 2011 until 2017. Gambhir guided KKR to playoff participation in the 2016 and 2017 seasons in addition to their two championship wins.

Even though the Indian Premier League has been beneficial for Indian cricket in many ways, it should be noted that the Men in Blue have yet to win a T20 World Cup since the tournament’s first edition in 2007, a fact that has come up for debate following their semifinal exit from the just-concluded competition.
