New Zealand struggled in the opening match but it is not a team that you ever want to underestimate. The team made an interesting decision to open with Daryl Mitchell in the previous match and we think Devon Conway could be given that role in this match. Conway is perhaps the best T20 batsman for New Zealand right now.
Glen Phillips will also have a big role to play for New Zealand in the middle order. Overall, though, New Zealand’s batting could struggle in the slow conditions that the UAE is experiencing.
Ish Sodhi and Mitch Santner are going to be the key bowlers for New Zealand in this tournament. They were the ones that scripted New Zealand’s famous victory over India in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup and will be expected to lead the way once more.
The fast-bowlers could see some rotation to allow for adequate rest.

One big question to come out of that India series for England was the form of their openers.
Dom Sibley, Rory Burns and Zak Crawley all struggled and are under pressure to bounce back.
Sibley might miss this match through injury but Burns and Crawley could be handed more time in the middle.
That lack of form and time as a pairing could be exploited by Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee here.
Even if Sibley does make it, he is another that has been out of form and will be vulnerable to the ball coming back into him on the Lord’s slope.
New Zealand’s openers, Tom Latham and Tom Blundell, may not have been able to find consistency but they have both had good moments, including their 2nd innings century stand against Pakistan at the start of the year.

This is the first of a two-Test series between England and New Zealand, as a warm-up for the New Zealand team before their World Test Championship final against at Southampton later this month.

For England these matches are a glimpse into the future as they will be fielding a new-look side, with a handful of Test regulars unavailable after playing in the IPL, and star all-rounder Ben Stokes, fast bowler Jofra Archer and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes?out injured.
New Zealand have not played red-ball cricket since early this year, and they are missing key paceman Trent Boult, who will arrive in time for the second Test after being granted leave to spend extra time with his family.
The Kiwis team is far closer to full strength than the England team is, but the bookmakers have made the home team short-priced favourites to win at Lord’s.
That is probably fair enough given the Kiwis’ rustiness and poor Test record in English conditions in general and at Lord’s in particular, and also the fact the England players have had plenty of County Cricket action to tune up for this series.

New Zealand have won the past two two-Test series between these teams 1-0, but those results both came on New Zealand soil. Their record in England is not great; they have not won a Test series in England since 1999 and have won only five of 54 Tests overall, with 30 losses and 19 draws. The Kiwis have superstar batsman in captain Kane Williamson and other rising stars in Henry Nicholls and Tom Latham but it’s going to be tough for them all coming in cold against an attack led by the brilliant seamers James Anderson and Stuart Broad. The Kiwis are two from two against established nations. Perhaps they should be shorter than on the outright market.
Their batting had a serious wobble against Sri Lanka and had their opponents been able to catch they would have probably lost. Still, the highly-skilled all-round attack is proving to be expert in these conditions.
Kane Williamson continues to be a problem at No 3 for them. The odds on them dropping him for Mark Chapman are long.

England are officially up against it for qualification. They have to hope Australia suffer fierce resistance from Afghanistan and win both remaining games.
Moeen Ali has asked his team-mates to be aggressive but that’s easier said than done when so much is riding on the outcome.
Their crisis of identity may stem from Ben Stokes being parachuted into the team. Stokes is struggling to adapt and Liam Livingstone would be of more use further up.
