Covid Chaos in the BBL: 11 players from two teams test positive.

The BBL has been thrown into disarray after 11 players from two teams. The Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder, tested positive for doping.

The Sydney Thunder said in a press release that four players tested positive for Covid on Friday. While the Melbourne Stars said that seven players and eight support staff members tested positive. The Sydney Thunder will face the Adelaide Strikers in tonight’s annual New Year’s Eve match. While the Melbourne Stars will face the Perth Scorchers on Sunday.

“All players who tested negative yesterday will have their PCR tests repeated tomorrow as a precaution. The Stars are currently coordinating with Cricket Australia regarding their upcoming match and will provide an update as soon as possible.”

BBL: 11 players from 2 teams test positive.

The Sydney Thunder have stated that they are “working with Cricket Australia and SA Health” ahead of tonight’s BBL game at Adelaide Oval against the Adelaide Strikers.

Aside from the BBL, Covid has also played in the Ashes after Australian batter Travis Head tested positive on Friday. He will miss the fourth Ashes Test, which begins on January 5 in Sydney.

According to Cricket Australia, he is asymptomatic and will be “available to play in the fifth Ashes Test in Hobart.”

Since a PCR testing regime was implemented on Monday after the virus was first detected during the Boxing Day Test, the touring party has recorded seven positives — three support staff and four family members.
