Ashish Nehra concerns the team management’s methods of hiring – ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right’

Ashish Nehra concerns the team management’s methods of hiring – ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right’. Despite having a pivotal 36 runs off 38 balls in the first ODI, Sanju Samson had to warm the bench in the second.

Sanju Samson was unexpectedly left off of India’s starting lineup for the current second One Day International match versus New Zealand at Hamilton’s Seddon Park. This infuriated the supporters, who immediately criticized the team management on social media. He has been given space by Deepak Hooda.

Former India bowler Ashish Nehra, who publicly criticized the management’s selection practices, has also expressed his unhappiness with the situation. The analyst advised the club management to be steady moving ahead at the same time.

“I hope they haven’t picked Deepak Hooda for his bowling” : Ashish Nehra

Nehra did, however, make it plain that if he had been a selector, he would have chosen Hooda over Samson because the former had participated in the T20 World Cup.

“I hope they haven’t picked Deepak Hooda for his bowling. You have Washington Sundar, yes, he bowled well, picked up a few wickets in the T20Is. He’s your sixth option, but not a great sixth option. Two changes India have made today, first thing, I don’t feel two wrongs make a right because it’s not that Shardul Thakur hasn’t done well. But before Thakur it should have been Deepak Chahar. Now you have gone with Thakur and it is harsh to drop after one game,”

Nehra said.

“Even if you see Sanju Samson, I would have played Hooda ahead of Samson because he was part of the World Cup squad and suddenly he is nowhere. So it’s difficult for Hooda as well as Thakur,”

He added.

After their seven wicket loss in the previous game, the Indian team management came under fire. The critics said that the Men in Blue lacked a bowler as New Zealand successfully chased down 306, which led to their seven wicket loss. In order to add more complexity to their bowling, they chose to incorporate Deepak Hooda and Deepak Chahar at the expense of Sanju Samson and Shardul Thakur.

Samson would still think it unfortunate that he was benched despite scoring a significant 36 runs off of 38 deliveries in the first game. Additionally, he and Shreyas Iyer had a vital 94-run  partnership for the fifth wicket.
